Triamterene is a type of medicine called a potassium-sparing diuretic. Hydrochlorothiazide is a type of drug called thiazide diuretic. This combined medication is sometimes called co-triamterzide. They lessen the amount of water in the body by increasing the flow of urine. Wherein, it helps lower the blood pressure. This medication also helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt. It keeps your potassium levels from getting too low. Triamterene-Hydrochlorothiazide is supplied as a tablet for oral use. This is a prescription approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

How does Triamterene-Hydrochlorothiazide work?

Triamterene-Hydrochlorothiazide works by causing the kidneys to increase the number of salts that are filtered out of the blood and urine. They draw water together with them when salts are filtered out of the blood by the kidneys. As diuretics increase the removal of salts from the blood, they also cause more water to be drawn out of the blood and urine.

Removing water from blood lessens the volume of fluid circulating through the blood vessels. This successively decreases the pressure within the blood vessels. Diuretics like Triamterene and Hydrochlorothiazide, therefore, works effectively to lower high blood pressure.
